Natal
the city of sun
The city of Natal
is situated in a beautiful region with beaches, dunes and a
large
number
of historical cultural monuments.
In 1999 Natal celebrated it's
400th aniversary. Natal developed from
the river port at the Rio Potengi to the sea, so that the
city is now bedded between sweet and sea waters.
On 6 January 1598
the Portuguese established a fortress on the beach at Praia do Forte at the north of the
city. This Forte dos rice Magos was baptized - three-king fortress". During a guided tour
(also available in English) you can experience stories
obout dutchmen who were kept captive for more than 20 years. The former prison, the "Casa de Dentenção",
was re-designed as a tourist centre and offers arts and
crafts shops, galleries and restaurants.
Other historical buildings are also worth an visit:
Theatre "Alberto Maranhão" with it's neoclassical architectural
style, "Câmara Cascudo", where fossils, skeletons and Indian articles are
kept and the church of the
holy Antônius with it's baroque architectural style with a
wood altar, monastery and religious.
A constant breeze from the sea makes this climate feel
particularly pleasant to European visitors.
According to investigations from NASA, Natal
has the purest air of the world (next to the Antarctic)
The topic "beach"
always arises when the capital of Rio Grande do
Norte is mentioned, because it has some the most beautiful beaches in
northeast Brazil. First there is the "Forte" beach with
nature water basins, and home to the three-king fortress
lies. The two beaches "do meio" and "dos aritstas" are
located in the city.
The most well-known beach is clearly Ponta Negra,
unfortunately you will not find any locals there, only tourists.
Northeast of Natal the
coast Potiguar are a must for the tourist in the search of
sun, beach and sea."Pipa",
"Tibau DO Sol", "Pirangi" and "Búzios"
are the famous names of the beaches south of
Natal. A coastline full of joyful surprises and unforgettable
landscapes.
The beaches on the south coast are completely differently
than those on the north coast, with high dunes and multicolored
sand. Dolphins and sea turtles can also be seen in some
bays.
A popular tourist attraction is the
enormous Caju tree, also known as "Cajueiro de Pirangi".
This is the largest tree of this kind of fruit in the world.
It's crown measures 8.400m³, which corresponds to 70 trees standing
next to each other.
